It uses a fogger-type dispersal pattern effective up to 30 feet away so you don’t have to get close to the bear in order to try and direct the blast specifically at the animal’s face. Keep in mind that it is vital to always have it handy, such as carrying it in a holster and not in your pack, if there’s a chance you could cross paths with any bears.
