The
TRA
Telephone Recording Attachment automatic
telephone recorder turns any recording device into a
telephone recorder! Simple and easy to use, this unit
connects quickly between your telephone and handset
providing crystal clear audio recordings. It allows you
to have a permanent audio recording of an important
conversation. If you’ve ever wondered how to add your
mini-cassette or digital recording device to your phone,
it takes a simple telephone recording attachment (#TRA)
that plugs into the microphone input of the
player/recorder and the other end plugs into the phone’s
jack.
Is Using a Phone Recorder Legal?
In conversations where parties
normally and reasonably expect to be recorded—such as
interviews, newsgathering, and giving statements—using a
phone recorder is perfectly legal. Most states plus the
District of Columbia allow you to record a conversation
without informing the other party that you are doing so.
However there are currently 12 states in the U.S. that
have a “two-party consent” law which forbid the
recording of private conversations using a phone
recorder without first obtaining the consent of all
parties involved. (Those states are California,
Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania
and Washington.)
